Green grips from SteelMX

A couple days ago I posted a picture of a very sad looking break lever, and in that picture you can see a very sad looking hand grip. Even worse is that the other very sad looking hand grip doesn't even match the one in the photo. While rebuilding the engine, hand grips were the last thing on the list. After this past race weekend they are turning into a necessity.
A couple hours after I posted that picture we received a message about sponsorship from SteelMX who has these awesome looking hand grips, and guess who should receive a green pair this week! Check back for a review after this weekend. They will be making a trip to Blue Diamond MX Park.
Now, if he could get a hook up on some new handlebars from Renthal or Outlaw.

The little things

I just realized that the brake lever was not in the same shape as it was before this past weekend. I asked Cade about it. He said he remembered when it happened but it didn't matter because he could still brake.
Looks like we need to get some spares to have on hand.

Motocross crash course

This was Cade's second time to Budds Creek He went to Budds Creek at the very end of February and killed his bike.  He tried all day to make a full lap.  After his second time out and not finishing a lap he was very discouraged.  The track is pretty brutal in my mom-opinion, but he practiced until the last time for the day when his bike died going up one of the larger hills.  It would not restart so we just brough it home. Once it was home it did start but sounded horrible and 'moto-Dad' will have to fill you in on the greasy details.
After many dollars were spent on parts and tools and many hours put in to rebuild the bike it was alive again but not until after the first MAMA race. It was finally together the week before the second race of the season.  He did a few laps around the yard and wasn't able to get back on it until Saturday, April 13 for practice.
On April14, the first moto for his class ended in a restart due to a few kids piling up on the first lap.  From what I heard, everyone was okay.  Cade got a warning for passing on a red flag but we weren't sure when or where that happened. Note to self, go over flags again before the next race.
The moto 1- He got to the staging really early because we were not sure how long the races were or how long it would take him to get back to camp and get geared up.  The moto 2- He was still the early but not as early.  He only fell one time but he was able to get out from under the bike and someone was able to come help him restart it.
He ended up finishing in 9th the second race. I was proud that he was actually doing laps on his second time to the track.  The track seems built for bigger bikes.  It was awesome to watch some of the more experienced guys tearing it up! Even if you don't ride a dirt bike, it would make for a great weekend with the family.
When we heard that everyone camps at the track, we imagined how we camp. I guess that is considered "roughing it" because our only upgrade has been an air mattress for our tent.  Everyone was great. The kids had fun, started making friends, and everyone was friendly and helpful when we asked questions.  It is very much like a community.  We had a great experience for our crash course in mx racing and look forward to seeing everyone again in 2 weeks!
